The ″gambler’s fallacy″ is the false belief that fixed odds increase or decrease depending on recent occurrences. Let’s use the familiar coin-flip example to illustrate this concept. Assuming we use a fair coin and a fair flip, we expect a 50% chance that heads will appear and a 50% chance that tails will appear. Those odds are fixed and will never change. Suppose heads appears five times in a row. If you think tails has a better chance of appearing on the next flip because it hasn’t shown for the last five flips (i.e., you think tails is ″due″), then you’ve fallen for the gambler’s fallacy. You must understand that results of previous flips have no influence on the outcome of future flips.

In craps, the dice have no memory. They don’t remember how they landed on the last roll. They don’t care if they haven’t shown a 7 in the last 50 rolls or even a million rolls. The odds of any number showing remain constant and are never influenced by what occurred previously.

Have you seen the big tote board by a roulette wheel showing the results of the last 10 or 15 rolls? It not only shows the recent numbers that hit, but also the colors (i.e., red or black). Almost every roulette wheel in every casino on the planet has a tote board. What purpose does that thing serve for either the player or the casino?

It doesn’t serve the player any purpose other to sucker him into making a bet that he wouldn’t otherwise make. It serves the casino’s ultimate purpose of taking advantage of the gambler’s fallacy and getting more bets in play. The more bets in play, the more money the casino makes. The casino has one key goal: get you to make as many bets as possible. The casino knows its profits go up as your number of bets goes up. The sole purpose of the tote board is to get you to make a bet that you normally wouldn’t make.

Suppose a husband and wife stroll through the casino on their way to dinner with no intention of stopping to gamble. They approach the table-games area and see on a particular roulette wheel’s tote board that the color red appeared on the last six rolls. The guy points to the wheel and says, ″Look, dear, black is due for that wheel. Let’s try it!″ The tote board just did its job. It suckered the guy into making a bet that he wouldn’t have made had he not known that red appeared six times in a row. Yeah, sure, black is ″due″ all right. Wrong! The little ball doesn’t know it landed on red the last six times. It only knows that both red and black have an equal chance of appearing on the next roll. It doesn’t influence itself to land on any particular number or color because of past occurrences.

Suppose your craps system tells you to Lay the 4 for $50 only after the number 4 hits three times in a row. Your system is based on the belief, if the number 4 shows three times in a row, then chances are that a 7 will appear before another 4. Is this a good, smart bet? Is this simple system good or bad?

Yes, it’s definitely a good bet, and this system is an acceptable way to play if you don’t mind getting bored to death. You think, ″Huh? You’re either nuts or full of crap because you just finished saying the dice have no memory, and future outcomes aren’t influenced by previous ones. Therefore, how can that be a good, smart bet?″ Calm down, let me explain.

In this example, you make a bet only after the number 4 has appeared three times in a row. You’re a knowledgeable player, a disciplined rock, one who sticks to your system and doesn’t allow emotion to cause you to deviate. Making a Lay 4 bet under those specific conditions doesn’t make your odds of winning or losing any different than another person making a Lay 4 bet at any other random time. Regardless of when or under what circumstances you make the bet, the odds don’t change. The Lay 4 bet with a vig after a win always has a 1.64% house advantage. It doesn’t matter whether you make the bet only after the number 4 has appeared three times in a row, or only when the shooter takes a swig of beer, or only when there’s a full moon. The odds never change.

However, although the Lay 4 bet with a vig after a win is considered a good bet because of its low house advantage, it’s possible to regard it as bad under certain circumstances. Let’s look at another example.

Suppose your system doesn’t include the Lay 4 bet. Under no circumstances does it tell you to make a Lay 4 bet. Suppose the number 4 appears eight times in a row. The hot babe next to you falling out of her halter top says, ″There’s no way a four will hit again. We should bet against it. What do you think?″ You respond, ″No thanks, I’ll stick to my system. It’s been good to me so far.″ She wiggles a bit and says, ″Oh, come on, I don’t want to be the only one hoping for a seven.″ Her jiggling causes you to lose focus, so you say, ″Maybe you’re right. Another four can’t possibly hit again. Let’s go for it!″

This is a situation where a good bet can be a bad thing. The key is that you allowed yourself to risk more money than you had originally planned because of the gambler’s fallacy (and partly because you couldn’t say no to the bimbo next to you). Remember, the more bets you make, the more the casino wins. So, adding more bets to your plan–even though they may be considered good because of their low house advantages–can be hazardous to your bankroll.

Let’s revisit the example of the couple strolling through the casino. Suppose the couple were in their hotel room before going down to dinner. As the guy brushes his hair, he says to his wife, ″Is it okay if we stop at the roulette wheel so I can make a quick five-dollar bet?″ His wife responds, ″Sure, but we have reservations and we can’t be late.″ They stroll through the casino and approach the roulette wheel. The guy sees that red has appeared six times in a row and, as a result, decides to bet $5 on black (he thinks black is ″due″).

Under these circumstances, using the tote board to influence his bet is harmless. Regardless of what bet he makes (black, red, even, odd, etc.), the house still has about a 5% advantage. The guy came to the table intending to make a $5 bet, so the results displayed on the tote board weren’t the trigger that influenced his decision to make the bet. In this example, although the guy’s belief in the gambler’s fallacy influenced him to bet on black, the gambler’s fallacy didn’t trigger him into making the bet (he had already intended to make the bet before leaving his hotel room). The gambler’s fallacy does its job only when it influences you to make a bet that you normally wouldn’t make.

The moral is, don’t let the gambler’s fallacy cause you to make bets that you normally wouldn’t. If you still believe that previous results influence future results and–here’s the important part–if this belief causes you to risk more money than you intended, then you’re playing a dangerous game. Play smart. Be a rock. Don’t fall for the gambler’s fallacy. Don’t let it cause you to put more money at risk than you had planned or that you can afford to lose. If you don’t want to lose your shirt, you must learn the secret to craps. Don’t fall for bogus winning systems or ridiculous dice-setting claims. Be smart. Play smart. Learn the secret to craps.

    Now you know!

You may have been playing at a table where everything appears to be going according to plan. All of a sudden, someone walks up to the table and does something so stupid it messes up the game for everyone.

In these situations it is important to keep a cool head and concentrate on your own game. You may be unfortunate enough to play with someone who appears to be in the casino purely to make a daily donation to them or to bother everyone else who is there playing and having a good time. It is best just to ignore them and go about your normal game strategy as though they weren’t there. However, certain situations sometimes prevent this from being a viable option.

You may have been at a hot blackjack table but everything comes to a screeching halt because somebody on third base decided to split tens against a dealer face card. The reason they sat down on third base was to ″help control the cards″ and they pull a slick move such as this.

Inevitably, the first ten split takes the dealer’s bust card, but low and behold, because of this smart play, the dealer pulls out a 20 or 21. What should you do? Tolerate it, scream and yell? No, realise they can play their hand any way they choose to and so can you. Walk over to another table and play there. It will not get any better with this guy on the table so it’s in your best interests to find another one.

Craps is another game where you will often see a lot of distractions. You may have someone who continually throws in their last minute bets or the dice will eventually hit the guy’s money or hand and throw a seven.

On some occasions they can bring a little of the ″beginner’s luck″ to the table but if they are throwing the dice off the table and hitting the chips and glass with each toss, find another one to play on.

You will find it is a tough task to find the right table in order for you to play at and accomplish your goals for the day. If it becomes too intolerable and you can’t get into your game properly then take some time out. Go to the pool, enjoy the entertainment the city offers or switch to a different casino entirely, but don’t spend your money at a duff table.

Casino gambling continues to expand around the World. Every year there are new casinos opening in existing markets and new venues around the World.

When most people think about employment in the gaming industry they naturally think of the dealers and casino personnel. It's only natural to think this way because those people are the ones out front and in the public eye. However the gaming industry is more than what you see on the gaming floor. Gaming has become an increasingly popular leisure activity, reflecting growth in both population and disposable income. Job growth is expected in established and growing gaming areas, such as Las Vegas, Nevada, and Atlantic City, New Jersey, and in other States likely to legalize gambling in the coming years.

Like nearly every business establishment, casinos have workers who direct and oversee day-to-day operations. Many job tasks of gaming managers, supervisors, and surveillance officers and investigators do not require interaction with casino games and patrons—but in the scope of their work, they must be capable of handling both.

Gaming managers. Gaming managers are responsible for the overall operation of a casino's table games. They plan, organize, direct, control, and coordinate gaming operations within the casino; formulate gaming policies; and select, train, and schedule activities of gaming personnel. Because their jobs are so varied, gaming managers must be knowledgeable about the games, deal effectively with employees and patrons, and be able to assess financial issues affecting casino growth or decline. These assessment abilities include measuring the profit and loss of table games and slot machines, understanding changes driving economic growth in the United States and so on.

Salaries vary by establishment and region. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data show that full-time gaming managers earned a median annual salary of $46,820 in 1999. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $26,630, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $96,610.

Gaming supervisors. Gaming supervisors oversee gaming operations and personnel in an assigned area. Circulating among the tables, they ensure that all stations and games are attended to for each shift. It also is common for supervisors to interpret the casino's operating rules for patrons. Supervisors may also plan and organize activities for guests staying in their casino hotels. Periodically, they address—and make adjustments for— service complaints.

Gaming supervisors must have leadership qualities and good communication skills. They need these skills both to supervise employees effectively and to greet patrons to encourage return visits. Most casino supervisory staff has an associate or bachelor's degree. Regardless of their educational background, however, most supervisors gain experience in other gaming occupations before moving into supervisory positions because knowledge of games and casino operations is essential for these workers.

Slot key persons. Slot key persons, also called slot attendants or slot technicians, coordinate and supervise the slot department and its workers. Their duties include verifying and handling payoff winnings to patrons, resetting slot machines after completing the payoff, and refilling machines with money. There are no formal educational requirements to enter this occupation, but completion of slot attendant or slot technician training is helpful. BLS data show that median hourly earnings of slot key persons were about $10.28 in 1999. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $7.02, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $17.83.

Gaming cage workers. Gaming cage workers conduct financial transactions for patrons. They sell gambling chips, tokens, or tickets to patrons or to other workers for resale to patrons. They also receive and convert the gaming chips, tokens, or tickets to currency at patrons' requests. Some cage workers may also accept patrons' credit applications and verify their credit references, enabling patrons to establish in that casino either a check cashing authorization or credit account.

Gaming dealers. Gaming dealers operate table games such as craps, blackjack, and roulette. Standing or sitting behind the table, dealers provide dice, dispense cards to players, or run the equipment. Some dealers also monitor the patrons for infractions of casino rules. Gaming dealers must be skilled in customer service and in executing their game. Dealers determine winners, calculate and pay winning bets, and collect losing bets. Because of the fast-paced work environment, most gaming dealers are competent in at least two games—usually blackjack and craps.

Nearly all gaming dealers are certified. Certification is available through 2- or 4- year programs in gaming or a hospitality related field. Experienced dealers, who often are able to attract new or return business, have the best job prospects. Dealers with more experience are placed at the "high roller" tables. Median hourly earnings for gaming dealers were $6.20 in 1999, according to BLS. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $5.38, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $9.53.

In addition to specific requirements for each occupation, all gaming workers must meet some general requirements. For example, a high school diploma or GED usually is required for entry-level jobs. And applicants for gaming or casino jobs must be at least 21 years old. All gaming workers are required to have a license issued by a regulatory agency, such as a casino control board or commission. Licensure requirements include photo identification, residency in the State where applicants anticipate working, and payment of a fee. The licensing application process also includes a background investigation.

In addition to a license, all gaming workers need superior customer service skills. Casino gaming workers provide entertainment and hospitality to patrons, and the quality of their service contributes to an establishment's success or failure. Therefore, gaming workers need good communication skills, an outgoing personality, and the ability to maintain their composure even when dealing with angry or demanding patrons. Personal integrity also is important because workers handle large amounts of money.

Each casino establishes its own requirements for education, training, and experience. Almost all casinos provide some in-house training in addition to requiring certification. The type and quantity of classes needed may vary.

Like any job, gaming work has its good and bad points. One of the advantages is the work environment: the atmosphere in casinos is generally fun filled and often considered glamorous. In addition, advancement opportunities in casino gaming depend less on workers' previous casino duties and titles than on their ability and eagerness to learn new jobs. For example, an entry-level gaming worker, such as a slot key person, eventually might advance to become a dealer or card room manager or to assume some other supervisory position.

    Pssst…! Wanna know a secret?

How about the secrets of the Threes and Elevens?

The 3’s and 11’s roll only twice in thirty six rolls, or once in eighteen rolls. The payoff for the 11 (or 3) is fifteen to one, which means that if you bet $5, and the 11/3 hits on the next roll, you'll win $75.

Wanna know the secrets that craps pros use to profit from the threes and elevens?

    Let's find out!

To use this method you need to count the rolls and know how many rolls have passed since the last 11/3. When you start playing, wait for a first 11/3 and begin counting. After twenty rolls, and no second 11/3, you begin betting. If another 11/3 rolls before you start betting, you start all over. Counting rolls is easy. Use your chip racks - the top one for 3’s, the bottom one for 11’s. Start with $1 chips and move them across the rack.

When five $1 chips are moved, replace them with one $5 one. Keep a very careful eye on the rolls and don't lose your concentration.

After twenty rolls have passed, begin betting one dollar on the 11/3. Continue adding $1 to your bet on every roll, until the 11/3 is hit.

Remember, the 11/3 pays a whopping 15 to 1, so if you bet just $20, you will win $300. Of course, you have to subtract the money you’ve already bet from the money you’ve won to give you profit.

When you start betting, remember, there have already been 20 rolls since the last 11/3, so you are really starting on the 21st roll. It is unlikely that an 11/3 will roll less than once in 36 rolls. But, in the improbable event that an 11/3 takes more than 40 rolls (20 rolls plus the first counted 20), you will need to increase your bets by $2, instead of $1.

Let's look at some examples. If you win on the fourth roll (after the initial 20, which is actually the 24th) you will make $60 ($4×15) from your $4 bet. But, you’ve already bet $10 ($1+ $2 +$3 +$4), so your profit really is $50 ($60 - $10).

On the 15th roll (after the initial 20 which is actually the 35th) where you bet $15, you'll win $225 ($15×15), and have a $105 profit, because you’ve already bet $120.

Before you start betting, tell the dealer exactly what you are going to do and make sure of the betting limit on the 3 or 11. Some casinos have different limits than others. A table with a $500 flat bet limit may limit you to a $100 craps bet. Make 100% sure of the craps number limits before you start betting, and keep the dealers informed at all times.

The next time you see someone roll a 3 or 11 you might want to start counting and give this method a try.

Play the system using imaginary bets with no money and when you see how well it does, start off betting just on the 11. It might get confusing if you bet on both numbers, but if you have a partner, he can bet on one while you bet on the other.

Pssst…! Now you know the secrets of the threes and elevens!

    32Red Online Casino

32Red are a UK registered casino based in Gibraltar who aspire to provide the best online casino gaming experience. They have all the casino games you would expect to find at an online casino including Baccarat, Blackjack, Craps, Pai Gow Poker, Roulette and many more each with a number of variants to choose from, as well as a vast number of slot machines.

Welcome Bonus When you sign up with 32Red online casino you can claim a welcome bonus of up to £100 for free. Their welcome bonuses are at 100%, that is they'll double your first deposit up to £100. The £100 welcome bonus is for slots only, which means to qualify for it you'll have to stick to the slot machines, fruit machines, Keno and scratchcards.

32Red also offer a £50 welcome bonus for new players with far fewer restrictions on which games can be played with the bonus. Basically you can play all the games they have with only a handful of exceptions. For both bonuses there is a wagering requirement of 25 times the combined first deposit and bonus before winnings can be withdrawn.

Monthly Bonus Regular customers with 32Red can enjoy a £50 bonus each month. The bonuses are by invitation only and customers must have wagered over £100 of their own money to receive an invitation. There is also a wagering requirement in that players must make a total in £2000 in wagers after receiving the bonus before winnings can be withdrawn.

    GameAccount.com

Game Account is not exactly an online casino, rather it offers players the chance to win cash prizes at games of skill. They offer both multi-player and single player games and tournaments of gin rummy, backgammon, solitaire, 3-card poker and tournament blackjack. For those of you that have never heard of tournament blackjack, the aim is to have a higher chip stack than the other players rather than to win money from the house. The player with the highest chip stack after a predetermined number of rounds wins a fixed cash prize.

Presumably in order to avoid the effects of recent legislation Game Account only offer games of skill and not games of chance. Therefore you will not find any casino games based on chance, like roulette.

Welcome Bonus Like a great many online casinos, GameAccount.com offers new real money players a 100% bonus on their first deposit, up to £100, when they sign up. As usual, the bonus cannot be withdrawn until a certain value of wagers has been made. I could not find any exact figures on the site but I assume it would be the standard 25x. However, I would advise contacting GameAccount and checking the exact details before you sign up.

Also bear in mind that GameAccount.com charge a 10% rake on the winnings made on any particular game and charge a 5% commission on withdrawals. Remember to account for this or you might find you've won less than you thought.

Refer a Friend Bonus If you can persuade a friend to sign up, and that means a real person not just you with a different email account, then you could be eligible for an extra bonus. There is an additional bonus for the member who successfully refers the most people every month. These bonuses cannot be withdrawn, however.

Note: As far as the author is aware, these details were correct at the time of writing. However, online casinos can change their bonus schemes and their terms at any time and it is advised that readers should check the casino’s terms and conditions thoroughly before signing up.

Be smart, play smart, and learn how to play craps the right way!

Unfortunately, a craps table is usually full of superstitious people. If you do or say something against their silly beliefs, they sometimes give you dirty looks or verbally abuse you. To help avoid embarrassment, ridicule, and possible vocal confrontations with these people, learn their superstitions and practice craps etiquette. I know it’s foolish to play along with people’s crazy superstitions, but you’ll have much more fun at the table if you do.

Practicing good etiquette includes remembering to be nice to the dealers. Don’t annoy them by throwing chips at them, knocking over their chip stacks, or blaming them for your losses. If you tee off the dealers, how can you maximize your fun? Besides, it just isn’t nice. Your friendly attitude will be infectious, soon making the whole table more fun. (Sounds like a good time for group hug and round of Kumbaya.)

Regardless of what so-called ″dice doctors″ and ″craps kings″ write on their web sites, there’s no such thing as a ″sane″ craps superstition. One superstition isn’t more or less sound than another. They’re all the same–silly. But you must heed them or the idiots at the table who actually believe in them can make your time at the table miserable.

Respecting many of the idiots’ superstitions has matured into traditional protocol at the craps table. Therefore, you must know and understand them. That’s another prerequisite to learning the secret to craps. Become a knowledgeable player. Learn the secret to craps.

Now you know! Remember, learn how to play craps the right way.

    Thorp’s Era.

If you don’t know, now we are living in 43th year of Thorp’s era. This person had such a great influence on the blackjack and all the gambling industry, that I seriously consider that he is worth of setting up a monument while alive, by the way at the casino’s expense.

Being a young scientist, Edward O. Thorp regularly read mathematic journals. When he was a student, he was pressed for money. The idea of outplaying the casino on the basis of calculations appealed to Thorp and he decided to check the results of the ″excellent four″ and see what will come out of it. The result of his activity was a phenomenal book Beat The Dealer, now its sales are approaching million of samples.

Thorp chose the other way he did not make analytical calculations, but with powerful at that time computer IBM (they were also called mainframe) he wrote several programs on Fortran, creating quite original methods for 60s. By the way, Thorp together with his research instructor Claude Elwood Shannon, a great scientist, were also involved in solving the problem ″how to outplay the roulette?″

From his calculations Thorp understood that dead cards had a considerable affect on the gambler’s chances this or that way. His main idea was about memorizing the dead cards in somewhat simplified way and when the situation is beneficial for the player, make high stakes. By the way, this system still remains the basis of any methods and counting systems of blackjack.

The counting system introduced by Thorp, was rather complicated for usage in real casinos, required great concentration and large amount of mentally arithmetic actions. However with good training there was nothing impossible in its application.

Thorp’s book immediately became a success and bestseller. Everyone understood that with quite simple actions you can get an advantage. Every reader dreamt of enormous prizes. However, the casinos also knew the score.

Panic seized them. And in 1962 after Thorp’s book, all Las Vegas Casinos without exception changed their rules being afraid of mass influx of ″system players″. The quality of the rules worsened terribly and no counting system could ever help you to win. Though the effect for casino turned out to be quite unpredictable and reverse - people stopped playing blackjack. And during several months, all the casinos had to return to the former rules for their own survival.

Another interesting effect caused by Thorp’s book- incredible popularity of blackjack outrunning the favorite American craps. A lot of people, after reading the book considered themselves potential winners and rushed to the blackjack tables. However, most of them had a bad understanding of the mathematical principles of the game did not become winners but quite vice versa. Therefore, casino got more clients and moreover losing clients. Since then their number is only increasing.

The system presented in the first edition of Thorp’s book was quite difficult even for professionals and only the few could apply it under the conditions of a real game. Something should be simplified.

    The power behind the throne.

Julian Braun is quite a unique personality. He had hardly ever played a deal in real blackjack. But he played millions and maybe even billions of deals on the computer. Braun was a good mathematician and programmer and he got interested in Thorp’s idea and offered him cooperation in the sphere of calculations and programming.

Braun became the person who first invented the counting system Hi-Lo. He was behind the development of all modern systems the authorship of which belongs to Revere, Humble, Wong and Uston. He wrote the only book How to Play Winning Blackjack, but what a book!

Braun upgraded Thorp’s system on FORTRAN and made considerable changes and the second edition of Thorp’s book also contained Hi-Lo system in its modern form. It was quite a revolution in gambling world. Braun worked in IBM corporation and had access to probably most powerful computers of that time. This fact helped to build simple and efficient tool in struggle with casino.

Using Braun’s calculations the gambler mostly known as Lawrence Revere developed his own counting system and presented his results in the form of convenient tables which are applied in most counters of the world. Lance Humble based his HiOpt systems on Braun’s experience.

Regardless the fact that Julian most probably had never been to the casino, he became a power behind the throne of the blackjack and all the mathematical modeling of the game fell on him.

    Pssst…! Wanna know a secret?

How about the secret of the fours and tens?

The four and ten pay a handsome 9:5 reward, so if you bet $5 on both numbers, you will win $9 if either one hits. Of course, if you bought the same numbers you would win a little more, but you will need to make at least a $25 bet on both ($50 total) to make this profitable.

Wanna know the secrets that craps pros use to profit from $5 bets on the fours and tens?

    Let's find out!

What you will be looking for is three hits on the four or ten to make your money. If the shooter is a good one, you will more than likely make this play, and this is how you'll do it.

First, place $5 on both the four and ten. Let's say now the four hits and you win $9. Take both numbers down and you have $19 in your hand ($14 from the 4 and $5 from the 10). Add a buck to this and place the four again for $20. When you win you get $36 plus your $20 back. Pocket the $6 and place the four a third time for $50. This third hit wins you $90, and you take it all down. You have turned your initial investment of $5 into $90 in only three hits.

Of course if the ten hit first you would be betting on that number instead of the four. And, you should bet only if the shooter is qualified to bet on - does he bet big on himself and look like he will be a good shooter? If not, don't bet on him - find another table or wait for the next shooter.

In 36 sample rolls, you should see 3 fours and 3 tens, a total of 6 hits - the same number as the 7, so choosing a good shooter is very important. Once you do, this three step play will work more often than you think. It's a great way of turning only $5 into $90 in a short amount of time.

Give it a try the next time you see a qualified shooter!

Pssst…! Now you know the secrets of the fours and tens!
